Fingernails

Not My Fingernails
I know what you're all thinking. "Fingernails? Why on earth would she write a post about fingernails. Maybe it's not really about fingernails. What analogy could she be making with fingernails?" Well, let me put your thoughts at ease, I am writing a post about fingernails, no weird analogies, but you'll just have to read it to find out why. And now I'm going to confuse you even more because my story doesn't even start with fingernails.

I have had terrible acne all my life. To compound that fact, I have a terrible habit of picking my acne. Popping zits, squeezing pimples, picking scabs, you name it I've probably done it. Recently I've had a nasty break out that just won't go away. In talking to people I decided that in order to make it go away I would have to stop picking. In order to try to get myself to stop I cut my fingernails short. Not just short, but to the quick short. And then I filed them slanted backwards to remove all possible temptation. The pictures aren't very good, but here's what my hands now look like

Now I'm beginning to realize just how under appreciated fingernails are. Not only do they protect the sensitive tips of your fingers (yes my fingertips hurt a little as I'm typing this), but you also use them for dozens of other tasks every day. Try undoing a double knotted shoelace without fingernails, washing your hair, picking up really small bits of paper or eraser bits, opening a box of macaroni and cheese, scratching an itch, popping a memory card out of a camera. All easier with fingernails. I will never under appreciate my fingernails again (that is if I can convince them to come back after the torture I put them through). However, I do not advocate doing things like this with your fingernails.

That's just ridiculous!

Birthday!

So, my birthday was yesterday, and it was quite possibly the best birthday ever , and definitely the BEST day of this semester!  It actually started the night before (the night of the 17th) when Janette came to dinner. We made pizza, Isaac brought cinnamon rolls, and we had several people over. I was already happy being able to party with Janette one last time before she went into the MTC . Then after dinner, my roommates surprised me with birthday cake and ice cream. Everyone sang happy birthday, and I was glad I got to celebrate with Janette. Then on the morning of the 18th (my BIRTHDAY ) I woke up and left my room, and this is what I found: streamers hanging from the connecting door, balloons all over the living room, streamers on the ceiling, a monkey hanging from the ceiling in the kitchen, and 20 sticky notes that said 20 different things my roommates love about me. : ) I have the BEST   roommates ever! Sandra also had a few dollar store presents for me, and the best o...

Going Public

So I was thinking today about how I love to keep up with my friends and family through their blogs. I'm pretty busy with school, so I really don't have time to call everyone who is important to me and talk about their lives. Instead I read their blogs. I write my blog for much the same reason, so that people who care about me can read about my life on their own time. Ever since I started my blog I've had it privatized so that only people who I invite can read my blog. However, as I have made more friends, I've had multiple people be surprised that I have a blog at all, and some have asked to read it. I've always been hesitant to let people read my blog because I don't want to inadvertently offend someone or accidentally share something I'd rather keep private with the whole world. I realized today that that is really silly considering the purpose of my blog, and so I've decided to publicize my blog. I realize that I write about other people on my blog, a...

Hi There

So Caitlin's blog has gotten me thinking. I'm not as creative of a writer, and I'm definitely not a paint artist, but I am away at college and not in as direct contact with my family and friends. I would like to be able to share my life and ideas with those that I love. I can't promise to post every day, or even every week, but I will try. I hope you all enjoy.
