I've been sick for the better part of the week. You may or may not know that I rarely get sick, and when I do it's terrible. This time was no exception. But, I'll save you the whole sob story, and just share this. You know how people always ask "How are you?", but you know it's just a formality, and they don't really want to know how you're doing. Well, I've gotten that a lot since getting sick, and I've generally answered the requisite "Fine" or "Great" or "Good" although the strangely deep, gravelly tone of my voice should give away the fact that I'm not. What I've wanted to say is more along these lines...
"My throat feels like it's full of sand or gravel or broken glass. My ears feel like I just went up in an airplane. I'm exhausted. I have to pee every twenty minutes because I'm drinking so much water. I wash my hands so often that they're raw. It looks like I'm wearing red gloves. I probably haven't had anything solid to eat all day, and I still have to go to class, and do my homework, and take care of myself. Where's the justice in that?"
Now, for the most part I didn't feel as miserable as that makes it sound, but I had my moments. I really hate being sick.
