Tuesday night I managed to get home from work before 6 and I didn't have any other commitments. It was a perfect chance to get some things done that I've been putting off.
*Yes I see you giant pile of laundry!*
However, when I got home my roommate was busily putting together a new over the toilet organizer for our bathroom because the one we had in there before was old and ugly. She asked me to take apart the old one and throw it away. I admit that I had great fun with this process.
*Insert video of me smashing the shelves with a hammer.*
By the time I was done there were little nails, scraps of wood, and lots of sawdust (and regular dust) all over the toilet, the sink, and the floor. I knew I couldn't handle it if the mess remained for several days so I went and got the dust pan and broom and swept up the debris. That's when the crazy brain kicked in.
Crazy Brain: "The wall behind the toilet is a mess to. It probably hasn't been cleaned in years. You should wipe it down!"
Realistic Brain: "It's just going to get covered up again anyway, and won't be cleaned for another 10 years. You really don't have time for this."
I wiped down the wall. I never should have let crazy brain win. One victory and she went a little crazy.
Crazy Brain: "Ooh! Look at how grimy the floor under the sink is! You should scrub that to!"
Realistic Brain: "No! Stop!"
Crazy Brain: "The sink really needs to be cleaned to... And look the tub isn't draining again we've got some Draino in the closet. Also, don't forget the dishwasher is full of clean dishes, and the sink is starting to stack up. Also, the big garbage can (the one we put out on the street) smells like something died inside it. It's warm enough now that we could use the hose to clean it out, maybe some bleach... Really we should give the entire house a good spring cleaning. You know it would feel more like a home if you did!"
Meanwhile I wiped the floor under the sink, wiped down the sink, and stared at the water sitting in the bathtub. Finally realistic brain had had enough.
Realistic Brain: "Good job wiping the floor and the sink, now STOP! We haven't done laundry since mom was here almost 3 weeks ago, and if we don't do it now we're going to run out of clothes! You can watch an episode of Dancing with the Stars while you do the laundry..."
I left the bathroom and gathered the entire mountain of unwashed clothes from my room and carried them all downstairs, but crazy brain wasn't ready to give up yet.
Crazy Brain: "Look at all this stuff all over the living room! How are you supposed to do laundry with all this stuff in the way?"
Realistic Brain: "Not again!"
I did a quick sweep and put all the dirty dishes in the sink, the food and trash in the trashcan, and everything else into the bucket by the stairs that I have designated for this purpose. Finally I settled on the couch in front of the TV, and began to sort my laundry.
Needless to say I didn't get to bed until after 10 pm. Sometimes my realistic brain looses control, and crazy brain takes over.
