IKEA Scavenger Hunt

My last post was about deciding to go on a mission. I'm really happy about that decision, and it's benefited my life in many ways, but the one I want to talk about is the most unexpected. Ever since deciding to go on a mission, boys (and all of the frustration that comes with them) have suddenly become much simpler. I'm going on a mission, so I don't have to worry about getting married for at least another 2.5 years. That means that while I still have crushes on boys, it doesn't matter if they like me or not because they'll probably all be married by the time I get home. It's great because I can just be friends with them, and not worry about dating or courtship etc. I've also come to the conclusion that if I want to go on dates, I'm just going to ask boys on dates. Once I came to this realization that it would be fun, and it wouldn't matter if they said no because I could just ask someone else I decided I really wanted to go on a date. So I jumped Jordan and told her we needed to plan a group date.
I've never been to IKEA, so we decided it would be fun to do a picture scavenger hunt at IKEA. We looked on the internet and found a ready-made list that someone else had posted on a blog. We changed a few of the items, and deleted a few, and then we were ready.  I started listing people we might want to have come with us, and pretty soon we had a good list. There were several changes (a couple last minute) to the original list, but we ended up with 8 couples.

  • Sam went with Devin (a friend of Janette's and mine)
  • Sandra went with Zach
  • I went with Joe (one of Isaac's roommates)
  • Paige went with Salva (her boyfriend)
  • Jordan went with Ben
  • Lindsay and Brandon (Jordan's friends)
  • Helen went with Isaac
  • Katie (Sandra's 1st counselor in the Relief Society) went with Jeff (her boyfriend and Isaac's roommate)
I split everyone up into 4 teams of 2 couples each and handed out the lists. We split up driving by team, and headed out to IKEA. There we met up one more time, and set when the 30 minute time limit would expire, then we split up to do the scavenger hunt. Joe and I were with Sam and Devin, and we had a great time finding things and taking pictures. I'll try to get some from Sam to post them. After half an hour we met back at our starting location. It turned out two teams had finished all of the items so there wasn't a clear winner, but I think my team won because the other team didn't follow the directions as well. : )  (They had a couple of pictures with only one person that should have had the whole team.) But oh well. After that some people went upstairs and got food at the restaurant, and some of us stayed downstairs to get cinnamon rolls (they were kind of disappointing). Then we all drifted home as we needed to.

All in all it was a really fun date. I want to do something like it again. In fact, I want to do something like it on a regular basis. Hmmm now I just have to think of another activity. The hardest part is it needs to be basically free. If anyone who reads this has ideas please let me know.

Birthday!

So, my birthday was yesterday, and it was quite possibly the best birthday ever , and definitely the BEST day of this semester!  It actually started the night before (the night of the 17th) when Janette came to dinner. We made pizza, Isaac brought cinnamon rolls, and we had several people over. I was already happy being able to party with Janette one last time before she went into the MTC . Then after dinner, my roommates surprised me with birthday cake and ice cream. Everyone sang happy birthday, and I was glad I got to celebrate with Janette. Then on the morning of the 18th (my BIRTHDAY ) I woke up and left my room, and this is what I found: streamers hanging from the connecting door, balloons all over the living room, streamers on the ceiling, a monkey hanging from the ceiling in the kitchen, and 20 sticky notes that said 20 different things my roommates love about me. : ) I have the BEST   roommates ever! Sandra also had a few dollar store presents for me, and the best o...

Going Public

So I was thinking today about how I love to keep up with my friends and family through their blogs. I'm pretty busy with school, so I really don't have time to call everyone who is important to me and talk about their lives. Instead I read their blogs. I write my blog for much the same reason, so that people who care about me can read about my life on their own time. Ever since I started my blog I've had it privatized so that only people who I invite can read my blog. However, as I have made more friends, I've had multiple people be surprised that I have a blog at all, and some have asked to read it. I've always been hesitant to let people read my blog because I don't want to inadvertently offend someone or accidentally share something I'd rather keep private with the whole world. I realized today that that is really silly considering the purpose of my blog, and so I've decided to publicize my blog. I realize that I write about other people on my blog, a...

Hi There

So Caitlin's blog has gotten me thinking. I'm not as creative of a writer, and I'm definitely not a paint artist, but I am away at college and not in as direct contact with my family and friends. I would like to be able to share my life and ideas with those that I love. I can't promise to post every day, or even every week, but I will try. I hope you all enjoy.
