Buenos Dias,
This week we had a
bunch of dinners with members. I'm not sure what happened, but all of a
sudden everyone wanted us to come over for dinner.
On Monday we had a slight mix-up. On Sunday, two hermanas had invited us over for Monday
night, but I told one of them that we could only come for a Noche de
Hogar (FHE) because we already had a dinner, and confirmed dinner with
the other family. Somehow though they didn't understand... The Hermana
we were supposed to have a Noche de Hogar with ended up working that
night, and the other family thought that we'd already had dinner so they
only had cake (and an apple for me instead). It was quite funny, but it
was good to talk with them and encourage them in their missionary work.
They actually had several people that they wanted to introduce to
missionaries (all in different areas but still exciting). It was great
to see their desire to do the work and help others learn about the
gospel.
On Tusday we had cena with Hermana Timotea. She is SO
cute, and so nice. She lives in this tiny little house with just barely
room for a little round table with chairs that fit all the way under the
table when you're not sitting at it. It was fun to eat with her and
feel her faith. It's always incredible to me to see the faith of the
members here. Even when they don't have very much they still want to
give more and more and they have so much faith that the Lord will
provide everything they need.
On Wednesday
we had cena with the stake president's wife. (Yes, the stake president
lives in our ward.) They were both so kind and dedicated, and I was
impressed with their trust that it's all just going to be okay. Despite
family members who either are inactive or not members, they trust in
God's plan and move forward anyway.
Thursday
we were invited to a kind of picnic thing where some of the ward
members were celebrating their kid's graduation (from 6th grade). We
weren't able to stay very long, but once again I was impressed by the
dedication the members of this ward have to sharing the gospel. One of
the members at the picnic saw a friend of hers at the same park and
brought him over to introduce him to us. We were able to talk with him a
little bit and get his information so that the missionaries from his
are could go visit him and his family.
Friday
was Zone Training Meeting, and it was great! We talked about how we
need to teach doctrine to help people resolve their own doubts, and also
how it is so important to find out people's doubts right off the bat.
If we know what their doubt is then we can teach them the things that
will help them resolve their doubts, but if we don't know what their
doubt is then we're just throwing information or doctrine at them to no
effect. It really struck me how true it is that we missionaries cannot
resolve peoples doubts for them. We can only give them the tools that
will help them resolve their own doubts. They have to read the Book of
Mormon, pray, and come to church or they will never be able to really
come to their own conversion no matter what we teach them. Helping
people make and keep commitments really is such a key part of our job as
missionaries.
Saturday and Sunday
were great because we got to teach S both days. S is just
amazing. She's preparing to be baptized this month, and I have LOVED
watching her progress. She struggled with reading ability and with
understanding what we taught the first several times we came, but now I
can see her comprehension and reading abilities increase every time we
teach her. Not to mention, her testimony has gone through the roof! On Sunday
she even read a scripture out loud during gospel principles! She is so
excited to be baptized, and has been reading a couple of verses in the
Book of Mormon every day.
I truly love being a missionary and having the
opportunity to share this gospel with others and help them become
converted and recognize the blessings that come by living the gospel of
Jesus Christ. I am grateful for the opportunity that I've had in my
mission so far to learn more about and live more fully the gospel of
Jesus Christ for myself. It truly has blessed me and helped me so much.
I love you all and hope you have a great week.
Love,
Hna Marin Hardy
