Buenos Dias,

This week has been pretty good overall. Also, I figured out how to attach pictures so I'll definitely include some of those.

Monday was fun because we had a zone activity down in San Fernando and talked and played a little bit at a park. We were also able to stop by the office and get supplies. We were sad because there was no mail, but we found out later that there was no mail because our district leader had stopped by to pick it up earlier that morning. He just didn't give it to us until two days later! :)

Tuesday we didn't have district meeting. We did have an amazing lesson with one of our investigators named E. She's an older lady who takes care of her grandchildren during the day, and she is so sweet. We talked about the Restoration, and focused a lot on the nature of God. It's funny since I'm serving in an area where almost everyone has a basic Christian/Catholic background so you wouldn't think that was necessary, but so many people seem to not have the same understanding of the nature of God that we do. I love that we can know that God is our father, that He loves us unconditionally, that He has a body of flesh and bones, and that everything He does is intended to help us gain true happiness.

Wednesday we started weekly planning, and had a lot of appointments fall through. :) Luckily our dinner appointment with the P family didn't fall through. I just love them, and I love talking with them about their conversion. They are recent converts who got baptized about a year ago. We are working with them towards going to the temple as a couple. Talking with them this week was so cool because I asked what the missionaries did that helped them become converted and their answer was so simple. They said that the missionaries were humble and they practiced what they preached. Other than that it was just patience since the Hno took almost an entire year of lessons before he was baptized. That conversation really strengthened my testimony that there are people who are prepared and willing to read and pray and come to church and eventually will receive that testimony for themselves if we are willing to be humble, loving, honest, and patient.

Thursday we had the one week follow-up training for new missionaries. It was a good meeting as always, but this time was different than the other times I've gone because we were the only Spanish missionaries there. There were a lot of English sisters, 2 companionships of Korean sisters, 3 companionships of ASL sisters, and one companionship of English elders. The best part was that the new 'English' elder is from Mexico! He just spent 6 weeks in the MTC trying to learn English because he's only spoken Spanish before! We sat next to them so that I could explain things that he didn't understand. I was so impressed with his understanding and ability to speak. I'm also excited because that means we'll be getting more Spanish referrals in from the English missionaries!

Friday we had Zone Training Meeting, and it was wonderful! We talked a lot about "Dominate Chapter 8" which is the goal setting and planning chapter of Preach My Gospel. It was so well timed because that's exactly what I've been working more on lately. Afterwards we had a reading appointment with E, and read the title page and introduction with her. We're trying to see her as many days a week as we can even if it's just for a few minutes to read with her. We're also working on getting a large print Book of Mormon so she can follow along with us and eventually read on her own.

Saturday we had a finding activity with the Hermana Training Leaders which was great. I got to work with Hna Warren, and I just love her. We didn't find very many Spanish people, but we wrote down a few houses that people said speak Spanish that we want to go back to. We also got an oil change for our car, kind of finished weekly planning, and got to go to part of the stake talent show. One of our members brought her non-member mother and wanted to introduce us. It didn't work out as well as we'd hoped since she was going back to Mexico today and we didn't have time to set up a meeting, but we tried.

Sunday was a good and very busy day. Hna Ellingson had to give a talk (her 2nd Sunday in the field!) so we went over that and practiced in the morning before we went out to try to help our investigators come to church. Church itself was wonderful, and Hna Ellingson's talk was AMAZING!!! Everyone complimented her, and said they couldn't believe she'd only been in the field for 2 weeks. Later that day one of the Hno's in the ward went to a cita with us and we were able to teach J and her young son J about the Restoration again. She committed to read in the Book of Mormon and pray to know if it's true. The best part is that I think she understands a little bit better why that is so important!

This gospel is true! I know that God loves us and wants us to be happy!

Love,

Hna Marin Hardy

Birthday!

So, my birthday was yesterday, and it was quite possibly the best birthday ever , and definitely the BEST day of this semester!  It actually started the night before (the night of the 17th) when Janette came to dinner. We made pizza, Isaac brought cinnamon rolls, and we had several people over. I was already happy being able to party with Janette one last time before she went into the MTC . Then after dinner, my roommates surprised me with birthday cake and ice cream. Everyone sang happy birthday, and I was glad I got to celebrate with Janette. Then on the morning of the 18th (my BIRTHDAY ) I woke up and left my room, and this is what I found: streamers hanging from the connecting door, balloons all over the living room, streamers on the ceiling, a monkey hanging from the ceiling in the kitchen, and 20 sticky notes that said 20 different things my roommates love about me. : ) I have the BEST   roommates ever! Sandra also had a few dollar store presents for me, and the best o...

Going Public

So I was thinking today about how I love to keep up with my friends and family through their blogs. I'm pretty busy with school, so I really don't have time to call everyone who is important to me and talk about their lives. Instead I read their blogs. I write my blog for much the same reason, so that people who care about me can read about my life on their own time. Ever since I started my blog I've had it privatized so that only people who I invite can read my blog. However, as I have made more friends, I've had multiple people be surprised that I have a blog at all, and some have asked to read it. I've always been hesitant to let people read my blog because I don't want to inadvertently offend someone or accidentally share something I'd rather keep private with the whole world. I realized today that that is really silly considering the purpose of my blog, and so I've decided to publicize my blog. I realize that I write about other people on my blog, a...

Hi There

So Caitlin's blog has gotten me thinking. I'm not as creative of a writer, and I'm definitely not a paint artist, but I am away at college and not in as direct contact with my family and friends. I would like to be able to share my life and ideas with those that I love. I can't promise to post every day, or even every week, but I will try. I hope you all enjoy.
