Buenas,

So I don't have a super lot of time today, but I wanted to share just a few things with you all. Conference was AMAZING!!! We've finally been able to set a few baptismal fechas (dates) with our investigators! And one very funny story about a different kind of fecha.

I loved conference. We watched the last session in Spanish with one of our investigators, and it was great to be able to watch conference in my mission language. Some of the themes that I noticed were: service/love, the atonement/grace, keeping the commandments brings blessings, gratitude, and family history/missionary work. My favorite talks were Sister Reeves' talk, and President Eyring's talk and I think Elder Ballard's talk has changed my mission if not my whole life. I love the idea of consistent follow up, and how important it is to be persistent.

Our miracle of the week is our investigator named G. She is so sweet, and so prepared to hear the restored gospel. We taught her twice, and the second time we were able to set a baptismal date with her for the beginning of next month. Then she came to the Sunday afternoon conference with us, and really seemed to enjoy it. She took notes and had some really good questions. She doesn't have really any kind of religious background because she says that she never understands the churches that she's been to. It makes her so open to our teaching, and we're slowly being able to help her understand who God is, and who Jesus Christ is. We are so excited to be teaching her!

One other miracle we saw this week was a chance to be Christ's hands for someone else. After conference we went out to do some contacting, and as we walked into the complex we talked to these two Hispanic men who were standing by the curb. One spoke English and the other mostly only spoke Spanish. It turned out that they were waiting to help a man and woman load a u-haul truck to move out of their apartment. We offered to help, and they actually accepted! We were able to help them with the packing, and also help the woman with the spiritual uplift that she needed. She's had a lot of trials lately in her life, and it was so good to be able to show her how much God loves her just by being in the right place at the right time. She and the others who were helping with the move kept calling us angels, but we kept telling them that really it was just the Lord. We were able to sing some hymns during the packing and say a prayer at the end, and I really just felt so good to have been able to walk as Jesus did serving the people in their times of need.

The funny story of the week comes as part of that miracle. As we were helping with the move one of the men who we had talked to at the beginning was talking with us and mentioning how miraculous it was that we were there to help. Then he ... asked me on a DATE!! It was the strangest feeling. In a way I was flattered, but then I was also confused since I'm a missionary and dating isn't even a part of the picture of my life right now. I told him I'd love to, but I'd have to wait 6 months or so because we don't really have time to date during our missions. He kind of looked at me funny and then said, "Well I'd be the one waiting then wouldn't I?" I just laughed, and we continued with the packing without talking about it. I've never been asked on a date on my mission before. I guess there's a first time for everything.

I love you all so much! I know that the gospel and this church are true. I know that God is our loving Heavenly Father. I know that Jesus Christ is our Savior and Redeemer.

Love,

Birthday!

So, my birthday was yesterday, and it was quite possibly the best birthday ever , and definitely the BEST day of this semester!  It actually started the night before (the night of the 17th) when Janette came to dinner. We made pizza, Isaac brought cinnamon rolls, and we had several people over. I was already happy being able to party with Janette one last time before she went into the MTC . Then after dinner, my roommates surprised me with birthday cake and ice cream. Everyone sang happy birthday, and I was glad I got to celebrate with Janette. Then on the morning of the 18th (my BIRTHDAY ) I woke up and left my room, and this is what I found: streamers hanging from the connecting door, balloons all over the living room, streamers on the ceiling, a monkey hanging from the ceiling in the kitchen, and 20 sticky notes that said 20 different things my roommates love about me. : ) I have the BEST   roommates ever! Sandra also had a few dollar store presents for me, and the best o...

Going Public

So I was thinking today about how I love to keep up with my friends and family through their blogs. I'm pretty busy with school, so I really don't have time to call everyone who is important to me and talk about their lives. Instead I read their blogs. I write my blog for much the same reason, so that people who care about me can read about my life on their own time. Ever since I started my blog I've had it privatized so that only people who I invite can read my blog. However, as I have made more friends, I've had multiple people be surprised that I have a blog at all, and some have asked to read it. I've always been hesitant to let people read my blog because I don't want to inadvertently offend someone or accidentally share something I'd rather keep private with the whole world. I realized today that that is really silly considering the purpose of my blog, and so I've decided to publicize my blog. I realize that I write about other people on my blog, a...

Cibophobia

I have been a picky eater for as long as I can remember. In fact, I am the pickiest person I have ever met. (I've heard of people who were pickier for a while, but not for such an extended period of time.) From as far back as I can remember up until my last year of high school I ate the same things all the time. I took the same thing for lunch every day from kindergarten through high school. My parents didn't understand, but they never tried to force me to eat anything I didn't want to. (Well, except once when I was five or six, and my mom said I couldn't have anything else to eat until I ate a slice of apple. ... I went three days without food and she gave up.) While I have always just said I'm a picky eater, I now believe that I suffer from Cibophobia. Cibophobia is the fear of food. If you'd like, you can read more about it here . Why was my diet so limited? Why did I refuse to try new things? It was because trying new foods, the thought of putting the food...
