Green Beans

I wrote this yesterday, but forgot to post it, so just remember it's one day off. I tried green beans today. The apples yesterday weren’t so bad, but the green beans brought me almost to tears. As I opened the can and put them in a Tupperware to microwave I could feel the anxiety building inside me. I repeated to myself, “No one is trying to kill me. I should not feel anxious. This is not harmful or frightening it’s just a hassle. This is just annoying not terrifying.” When the beans were warm I got out a fork, and speared a good mouthful of the beans. I could feel panic rising as I brought the beans to my mouth, so I gave up and put the fork back down. I tried three more times, once I even got the fork all the way into my mouth. Eventually I pushed a few beans of the fork so it was a smaller/less intimidating amount. I once again repeated my mantra, “No one is trying to kill me. I should not feel anxious. This is not harmful or frightening it’s just a hassle. This is just annoyin...

Cibophobia

I have been a picky eater for as long as I can remember. In fact, I am the pickiest person I have ever met. (I've heard of people who were pickier for a while, but not for such an extended period of time.) From as far back as I can remember up until my last year of high school I ate the same things all the time. I took the same thing for lunch every day from kindergarten through high school. My parents didn't understand, but they never tried to force me to eat anything I didn't want to. (Well, except once when I was five or six, and my mom said I couldn't have anything else to eat until I ate a slice of apple. ... I went three days without food and she gave up.) While I have always just said I'm a picky eater, I now believe that I suffer from Cibophobia. Cibophobia is the fear of food. If you'd like, you can read more about it here . Why was my diet so limited? Why did I refuse to try new things? It was because trying new foods, the thought of putting the food...

Sleep

So I'm pretty sure it's ok for me to copy this since they included a code on the page that was labeled "Embed the above image on your site." I tell people (specifically my roommate S*) all the time that they need to get more sleep. This is just a little bit of validation that I'm not crazy. Good Friends

Yesterday I was reminded once again of how many wonderful friends I have surrounding me. I am especially grateful for the wonderful men in my life. Sometimes I feel like men are under-appreciated because we just expect them to be good and strong and all of these other wonderful qualities, but then don't praise them when they are. This post is for them; to let them know that they are appreciated and that I see their goodness and strength every day.  As an example I'll share a story. Yesterday, I took a test for one of my classes and although I won't know my grade for another week or so I felt like I did really badly. I left the testing center struggling not to cry, and started home. On my way down the stairs at the back of the hill I tripped, and fell a couple of steps hurting my already hurt foot even more. (I hurt my foot dancing on Tuesday and it had just been starting to feel better.) It was a case of adding injury to insult. I really wanted to cry, but I didn't wan...

Leap Day

So, I wanted to get one more post in during February, and I have one in the works, but I don't think I'm going to finish it today, so I'm writing a short note on Leap Day. I always know when it is a leap year because I was born on leap year so every time I have a birthday that is divisible by 4 it's a leap year. I also like leap day because it extends February one more day. However, I sincerely believe that it should be a school holiday, because after all it's only once every four years, and they don't really need another day in the school year... Truly a random post, but it allowed me to procrastinate my homework for another 5 minutes, so it was worth it.

Valentines Day

February 14th, is at once the most anticipated and the most feared, the most loved and the most hated day of the year. Couples do cute things for one another, and single people post things on facebook such as the following: Micah : "Happy Low Self-esteem Day Kadee!"  Me: "......Gee Thanks." This is why I call it "Single's Awareness Day / Spousal Obligation Day" (SAD-SOD). I'm honestly not a fan. Maybe I'll like it more when I'm not single, but I still maintain my right to be skeptical of that possibility until I find positive proof that it's a great thing. Happy Singles Awareness Day! With your help, we can put an end to this ruthless disease. These are just the few examples I found in my cursory glance over my news feed. I really wish people would look at the good side of February 14th.  I was not single on Valentines Day last year, but I am very single this year, and the guy I was dating last year is now dating someone new. I ...

Going Public

So I was thinking today about how I love to keep up with my friends and family through their blogs. I'm pretty busy with school, so I really don't have time to call everyone who is important to me and talk about their lives. Instead I read their blogs. I write my blog for much the same reason, so that people who care about me can read about my life on their own time. Ever since I started my blog I've had it privatized so that only people who I invite can read my blog. However, as I have made more friends, I've had multiple people be surprised that I have a blog at all, and some have asked to read it. I've always been hesitant to let people read my blog because I don't want to inadvertently offend someone or accidentally share something I'd rather keep private with the whole world. I realized today that that is really silly considering the purpose of my blog, and so I've decided to publicize my blog. I realize that I write about other people on my blog, a...
